Ningaloo Roast Cocktail Bar
How to Make the Perfect Espresso Martini
If you are obsessed with coffee as much as we are and love a good cocktail, then this recipe is for you. The Espresso Martini was created by British bartender Dick Bradsell in the late 1980s when a model asked for a drink that would “wake her up, and f**k her up.” Long story short, Bradsell did not fail and his drink, formerly known as the vodka espresso, made history.
The cocktail is a myriad of sweet, dark, and intense notes, made with fresh espresso, vodka, and Kahlúa, but the key to it all is the thick crema at the top. Making this cocktail at home is almost as good as drinking it, plus you can’t go wrong using Ningaloo Roast’s coffee. Our high-quality beans are locally roasted on the Ningaloo coast, and they are perfect for this rich, creamy drink that will leave you wanting more. INGREDIENTS
• 1 1/3 Parts (40ml) Vodka
• 2/3 Part (20ml) Espresso
• 2/3 Part (20ml) Kahlúa
• Ice Cubes
• 3 Coffee Beans
What Is Kahlúa?
Kahlúa is a coffee-flavoured liqueur from Mexico, made with arabica coffee with sugar, vanilla and rum. It gives the Espresso Martini the right balance of alcohol, coffee and sweetness for that authentic flavour and the perfect post-dinner pick-me-up. Although if you don’t have Kahlúa, you can opt for another coffee-based liqueur.
Why 3 Coffee Beans?
So why garnish an espresso with three coffee beans? Well, the three beans symbolise health, wealth, and happiness according to the serving of Sambuca in Italy, and so the next time you make a toast, celebrate these three with an Espresso Martini. It’s the perfect way to start a night with friends and family.
METHOD
1. Brew the espresso and allow it to cool so that it doesn’t melt the ice and dilute the drink. Using a coffee machine will help with that froth.
2. Pour the espresso, kahlúa, vodka, and ice cubes into a cocktail shaker.
3. Shake the cocktail hard to create that thick foam.
4. Strain the mixture into a martini glass. Pour it swiftly so that the foam ends on top.
5. Garnish with 3 coffee beans.
There you have it, the perfect espresso martini. You can make many variations of this cocktail and tailor it to your taste.
However, if you want to try it out first hand…Come to CYC on 2nd July with James Abberley. You can enjoy the live music while sipping on an espresso martini and graze away on one of GGG’s platters.
